Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 to Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is fourth in the Roberts generation to reside in Atlanta starting with her great-grandfather who was a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. Her father's passion for theatre was inherited by her. in theatre from an early time. As a student of Emory University, he performed on stage in a number of shows in Atlanta. In 1953, when he joined the Air force, he appeared with Betty Lou Bredemus in Biloxi. The two married in 1955, and their first son Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter as well as his spouse were discharged from the military in the year 1957 and enrolled Walter in Tulane University. In 1960, the family relocated from Louisiana to Decatur Georgia where Walter began working at Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter and Betty Lou financed their own production of the local Sunday morning show for children, Bum Bum and His Buddies. The Actors and Writers Workshop was created in the year 1964 and ran for 6 years. They also had two youngsters Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965 as well as Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
